Our Earth Day Commitments to Protect the Springs
At Weeki Wachee, ensuring the sustainability of Florida’s springs is a top priority. With Earth Day coming up, we’re proud to share some of our ongoing and future initiatives:
- Switching to Aluminum Water Bottles: By May 1, we’ll be fully transitioning to eco-friendly aluminum water bottles. This shift eliminates the use of single-use plastics within the park and significantly reduces our environmental footprint.
- Organized Cleanup Efforts: We’re partnering with Publix to host a large-scale cleanup event involving 50–80 volunteers. This initiative will target litter within the park and along the river. Stay tuned for an official date in April.
- Non-Disposable Policy: We strictly enforce a no-disposable-items policy for the river. Visitors bring their food and drinks in non-disposable containers, which helps keep the river free of litter.
- Expanding River Cleanup Programs: Partnering with our Boathouse Manager, William Pollitt, we’re extending our clean-up efforts beyond our immediate area of care, ensuring more of the river remains untouched by pollution.
